Project Summary
DesignArchiveOnline is a networked learning resource on the history of design. It presents a collection of approximately one-thousand images with supporting descriptive documentation drawn from materials in the RIT Library Special Collections.

The program focuses on the history of twentieth-century magazine design and photography, a subject central to the curricula of RIT's School of Art and Design, School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and School of Printing Management and Sciences. Drawing from several Special Collections, including rare periodicals collection and design archives, DesignArchiveOnline offers examples of outstanding graphic design, typographic design, editorial illustration, editorial photography, and advertising photography. It also provides an historical framework for the development of twentieth-century magazine design through supporting tools such as a timeline, biographical profiles, and bibliographic histories.
